Project obstacles and solutions: The City of Evansville was having problems with storm water backing up and flooding the alleyway behind a residential neighborhood. Since trash pickup happens down this alley, the combination of standing water and trash was causing a bad odor and was a public health concern. Deig Bros Construction was hired to reconstruct the alley with pervious concrete to quickly drain the storm water.

The alley was redesigned with a subgrade of stone over a geofabric. The stone was placed at a depth of 16-1/2 inches to hold the water until it percolates back into the ground. The surface was finished with with two strips of broomed concrete flanking a center strip of imix Eco Pave pervious concrete placed 3-1/2 feet wide x 7-1/2 inches deep. By using imix Eco Pave, the water is channeled to the aggregate subsurface and any floating contaminants are trapped in the porous concrete.
