Project obstacles and solutions: On Friday, May 25, 2012, Citizens Gas employees were finishing an installation of new gas lines in the 2600 block of S. Arlington Avenue in Indianapolis. The street had been closed for most of a month and Citizens intended to get the gas line installed and the street in working order before the weekend. May 25 was the Friday before the Memorial Day weekend.

Citizens Gas contacted IMI at 9:30 a.m. and requested 51 yards of imix Flexifill to fill the street cut. The 51 yards were delivered and poured in the morning. However, the gas lines needed more work than was originally thought. At 2:30 p.m., Citizens ordered another 40 yards of imix Flexifill and asked that up to 60 yards be held in reserve for the project. They also requested that 30 yards of a topping mix be held in reserve. They wanted to finish the job before the day ended so they could open the road early the next morning. This would require plants to stay open past normal closing times. The IMI customer representative assured Citizens that they would stay operational until the job was complete, even though it was Friday before the long weekend.

IMI had two plants supplying concrete to the job site. As the day wore on, a third plant stayed open past closing time with batchmen and drivers on standby for this project. At 5:00 p.m. Citizens called for 40 more yards of imix Flexifill. At 6:30 p.m. they called for the first 10 yards of the topping mix. IMI QC/QA worked to batch a mix that would set up within their time requirements. At 6:45 p.m. Citizens called for 30 additional yards of imix Flexifill. At 7:15 p.m. they called for 9 more yards of topping concrete to finish the job. At 9:30 p.m., Citizens called to say they had completed the job. IMI drivers, plant operations and QC/QA staff shut the plant down five hours after their typical closing time. Their commitment to seeing the job through to completion allowed Citizens Gas to meet their goal.On the morning of Saturday, May 26, Arlington Avenue opened for traffic.
