Fall Creek Dam

The dam on Fall Creek at the intersection of Keystone Avenue and Fall Creek Parkway in Indianapolis, Indiana was originally built in the late 19th century.  After decades of repairing the original structure, Citizens Energy Group made the decision to replace the aging dam.

Project Overview

The main challenge for this project was safely diverting water from the jobsite.  To alleviate this issue, the contractor, Thienenman, constructed diversion pipes to channel water away from the new dam and created a roadway with compacted stone and steel road plates to allow equipment to make material deliveries.

imi supplied 1,500 yards of concrete for this project.  The delivery process required mixer trucks to cross the creek one at a time.  Keeping on schedule was critical; when water levels were deemed acceptable, imi dispatchers and drivers worked together to ensure the flow of concrete was continuous, with each pour resulting in up 200 yards of concrete.

This project was awarded an Excellence in Concrete Award from the IRMCA.
